In 1990, I was commissioned to make the photographs for a book on the buildings of the ancient pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela in north west Spain. This doorway is considered one of the best examples of Romanesque sculpture and all the pilgrims pass through here, as they have done for hundreds of years, to enter the cathedral.

A later baroque cathedral was built around this doorway. The book was published in 1991 by Viking Books in the U.K. and by Chronicle Books in the USA.
