Colin Dixon has worked as a professional photographer since 1987. He has specialised in architectural and landscape subjects working all over the British Isles and parts of Europe. In 1990 he created the photographs for “The Buildings of the Pilgrim Road to Santiago de Compostela” by Michael Jacobs which was published by Viking (Penguin Books) in 1991. In the following year he was in the Loire region of France where he photographed 46 chateaux for “Chateaux of the Loire” by Marcus Binney which was also published by Viking.
His clients include The National Trust, North Pennines Heritage Centre, Northumberland County Council, Forest Enterprise and many British and European book and magazine publishers.
He works closely with both the Arcaid architectural picture library and The National Trust picture library. At his office in Hexham in Northumberland, he has a growing library of local buildings and landscapes, and as a result of his work in Spain he has a very good collection of transparencies of the buildings and landscapes of the pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela.
As well as his commissioned work, he has frequently exhibited his personal work. In September 2004, he had a major exhibition of 60 black and white prints in Florence. The book “Light and Time” was published concurrently in Italy to mark the opening of the exhibition. He is also a frequent workshop leader and teaches black and white photography courses in his hometown of Hexham. In 2004 he also led a five day workshop at the Inversnaid Photography Centre.
